Culturally Sensitive Psychotherapy
Through our new culturally sensitive approach, we offer a therapeutic method based on the following questions, which we seek to answer:
- What experiences does a child go through with his parents up to adolescence, such that they remain dependent on them for life and constantly seek to please them?
- What cultural challenges lead to this development and have a decisive influence on child-rearing?
- How, then, is personality formed, and which defence mechanisms are triggered most frequently as a result of these cultural characteristics?
- How can people who belong to collectivist cultures or who come from them (immigrants) for whom the ‘ideal and natural’ development of their personality involves remaining dependent on their families for life require the same form of psychotherapy that was developed in the individualistic cultures of the North-West?
- What should such a culturally sensitive form of psychotherapy take into account, and what ‘techniques’ should we use to treat people suffering from mental disorders?
- What does the ‘normal’ development of personality look like in such cultures, and where do the deviations lie that can be described as disorders?
Through our new approach, we offer the following:
- Access to culturally sensitive psychotherapy based on the psychological dynamics of people belonging to collectivist cultures
- Raising awareness of the self, the psyche, personality and mental disorders in collectivist cultures or amongst ‘collectivist migrants’
- Psychotherapy
- Professional supervision for specialists such as psychiatrists, psychologists and psychotherapists from various disciplines
- Advanced seminars and training courses for professionals such as psychiatrists, psychologists and psychotherapists from various disciplines
Group Supervision for Teams
I offer group supervision for teams working in clinics, hospitals, or private practices. These sessions provide professional support through a culturally sensitive and psychoanalytic lens, focusing on real clinical cases and team dynamics.
Culturally Informed Case Discussions
Participants are invited to present clinical cases and reflect on treatment from both Western and collectivist perspectives, including Southeast Asian and Arab cultural contexts. This fosters deeper understanding of clients and therapeutic relationships.
